Hippocratic Oath Addendum

The ANTHROfit Hippocratic Oath Addendum

I swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant:
  • I will apply dietic measures for the benefit of the sick according to my ability and judgment; I will keep them from harm and injustice.  (This was in the “Classic” version of the Hippocratic Oath, edited out in favor of the now used “Modern Version”)
  • I will not practice “Defensive Medicine” in fear of malpractice attorneys and litigious patients.
  • I will not pander to pharmaceutical sales reps, and remember that Big Pharma is not in the business of putting themselves out of business.
  • I will prevent disease whenever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure. (Already in the Oath, but restated to remind our forgetful breathern)
  • I will listen to my patients, rather than talk at them.
  • I will constantly remind myself that I am as human and as special as anyone else, no more, no less.
  • I will practice the idea that there is no such thing as a “VIP.”  Everyone’s an important person of equal value in the eyes of medicine.
  • I will read the entire research paper, and not only the abstract.
  • I will remember that science and medicine are constantly evolving, and that my paradigms will constantly be challenged, and to be open to such challenges as often conventional wisdom is erred.

If I fulfill this oath and do not violate it, may it be granted to me to enjoy life and art, being honoured with fame among all men for all time to come; if I transgress it and swear falsely, may the opposite of all this be my lot.

Nice information, many thanks to the author. It is incomprehensible to me now, but in general, the usefulness and significance is overwhelming. Thanks again and good luck!
